Robert Fowler was born on April 4, 1950 putting him in a trajectory to experience all of the wonders of the 1960s during his teenage years culminating with the San Francisco’s Summer of Love in 1969 where he literally lived on the corner of hate and Ashbury and even becoming friends with Janis Joplin. He lived a storied life rambling all around  with cat stories to tell about it. Ultimately becoming obsessed with palm trees, Bob settled in Richmond, California where he joined and became a permanent fixture of the Northern California Chapter of the International Palm Society. I was fortunate enough to meet him through the Palm Society and when I started my nursery in 2002, he couldn’t stay away and came over and hung out so much that eventually I gave him a job of customer service and talking Palms, which was his favorite thing to do in life. The customers loved him and he planned to work there forever because he loved it so much but eventually, health got the better of him. I’ve never met a more optimistic person than Bob who through this difficult time has taught me to remain positive all the way to the end. Rest in peace, buddy. I miss you.
